In simple terms BOD is a description of the number of organisms using dissolved oxygen from the water to sustain their existence. When fish, plants and micro-organisms use up this oxygen the resource is depleted. If the BOD is too high then organisms start to die; many ponds have struggling fish and dieing plants due to the level of BOD.

It is an excellent idea after winter to kick start any pond by removing waste and leaves which have built up. A spring clean around April or May will make the summer months a more pleasurable experience for your client.
